Does this sound familiar?
You don’t have to have the words for it yet.
- Does weekly therapy feel like you spend half the hour just warming up?
- Is there one pattern, memory or relationship you keep circling back to?
- Are you facing a big decision and need real space to think it through?
- Would it be easier to set aside one focused block than to fit in a weekly hour?
- Have you done good work in therapy before and want to go deeper now?
What an individual therapy intensive is
An intensive is therapy in a longer, more concentrated format. Instead of meeting for 45 to 55 minutes each week, we meet for an extended session, or a series of extended sessions close together, so there's time to settle in, go beneath the surface, and stay with what comes up rather than stopping just as it gets important.
I offer intensives for individuals as well as for couples. An intensive is a minimum of three hours, over the course of one or more days, and it begins with a 60-minute prep session. We shape the format around what you want to work on and what feels manageable for you. Like all of my work, intensives happen online by secure video, so you can do this from home or any private space in Texas.
Why a longer format can help
Weekly therapy works well for many people. But some work benefits from more uninterrupted time:
- Momentum. When a week passes between sessions, it's easy to lose the thread. A longer block lets insight build on insight without starting over.
- Depth. Painful material often needs time to approach safely. A longer session leaves room to open something up, work with it, and settle again before we close.
- Focus. An intensive is organized around a clear goal, so we can give one concern our full attention.
- Practicality. For people with demanding schedules, travel or caregiving, one protected block can be easier to arrange than a standing weekly hour.

What we might work on
Individual intensives can be a good fit when you want to:
- Understand and shift a long-standing pattern in your relationships, such as people-pleasing, shutting down, or choosing partners who can't meet you.
- Work with painful experiences from your past that still shape how you feel and react today.
- Get to know the protective and wounded parts of you, using Internal Family Systems-informed work.
- Make sense of a life transition, a breakup or divorce, or a decision you feel stuck on. See also life transitions.
- Prepare yourself before or alongside couples therapy, when you can tell some of the work is your own.
- Reconnect with yourself as a helping professional. Therapists sometimes find an intensive easier to fit in than weekly sessions; see therapy for therapists.
I draw on the same approaches I use in weekly individual therapy: mindfulness, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, cognitive therapy, skill-building, and EMDR when it's a good fit for you.
“Sometimes what you need isn't more weeks of therapy. It's more uninterrupted time with the thing that matters most.”
Is an intensive right for you?
Intensives ask a lot of your energy and attention, so I'll talk with you carefully about fit before we schedule one. They tend to work best when you have some stability in daily life, a clear sense of what you'd like to focus on, and a plan for gentle self-care afterward.
An intensive may not be the right first step if you're in crisis, having thoughts of harming yourself, actively struggling with substance use, or in an unsafe living situation. If that's where you are, please reach out anyway. We can talk about what kind of support makes sense, whether that's weekly therapy with me or a referral. If you're in immediate danger, call or text 988, or call 911.
How online intensives work
- Free phone consultation. We talk about what you're hoping for, whether an intensive fits, and what format makes sense.
- 60-minute prep session. Before the intensive, we meet to choose a focus, gather the history that matters, and plan the structure: three or more hours in a single day, or spread over several days, with breaks built in.
- The intensive. You join by secure video from a private, comfortable space. Have water, snacks and something grounding nearby. We pause for breaks, and we close each session in a settled place.
- Integration. Many people continue with weekly or occasional individual therapy afterward to keep building on what we started. Others return for another intensive later.
Because I'm licensed in Texas, you'll need to be physically located in Texas during every session.
Fees
Intensives have their own pricing schedule, separate from my regular session fees, and depend on the length and format we plan together. I share rates during your free phone consultation. You can see my regular session fees on the rates page.

Questions
Individual Therapy Intensives: common questions
How long is an individual therapy intensive?
Individual intensives are a minimum of three hours, over the course of one or more days, and they begin with a 60-minute prep session. Some people do their intensive in a single day; others spread the hours over several days. We decide the format together, based on your goals and what feels sustainable for you.
Do you offer individual intensives in Southlake, TX?
My practice is based in Southlake, but every session, including intensives, takes place online by secure video. You can join from home or any private space, as long as you're physically located in Texas during the session.
How is an individual intensive different from a couples intensive?
Both are a minimum of three hours over one or more days, with a 60-minute prep session beforehand. A couples intensive focuses on the relationship between two partners. An individual intensive focuses on you: your patterns, your history and your goals.
Can I do an intensive if I already have a therapist?
Sometimes, yes. Some people use an intensive alongside their ongoing therapy for focused work. If you're seeing another therapist, we'll talk about how to keep the work coordinated and make sure it supports, rather than competes with, the therapy you're already in.
How much does an individual intensive cost?
Intensives have their own pricing schedule, separate from my regular session fees, and depend on the length and format we plan together. I share rates during your free phone consultation.
What should I do after an intensive?
Plan for a gentle rest of the day: food, water, rest and something comforting. Insights often keep unfolding for days afterward. Many people continue with weekly individual therapy to integrate what came up, and we'll talk about next steps before the intensive ends.
