As a couples therapist, I view communication problems and intimacy issues as a breakdown in connection between you and your partner. In our work together, we will focus on healing through reconnecting with your partner by creating new, shared meanings about the relationship.
Typically, we rely on old assumptions about how to make a relationship work. These separate and different perspectives often get in the way of being understanding and compassionate to each other.
In couples therapy, we will explore both verbal and non-verbal methods of expressing what you feel and think to your partner in order to demonstrate understanding and compassion.
But communication is only the beginning! As your couples therapist, I will encourage you to expand your emotional range, experience empathy for your partner, and learn the meaning of true intimacy.
For those of you familiar with or curious about different types of therapy, I integrate the following approaches into my work with couples:
- Mindfulness
- The Gottman Method
- Emotionally Focused Therapy
- Internal Family Systems
- Cognitive Therapy
- Skill-Building in Communication and Coping
